The SISHC is holding the 2021 Hanmer Springs Challenge. This event will be held over two days, 10-11 July in the Hanmer Springs Forest.

Entries accepted after close date (28th June) will incur a $30.00 late fee per musher.
Forest Entry Requirements
For entry into Hanmer Springs Forest you must comply with the following requirements.
- All vehicles including trailers must have a current warrant of fitness and registration
- All non-turbo diesel vehicles must have a spark arrester
- All vehicles must have as a minimum third party insurance
- All vehicles must carry a first aid kit and fire extinguisher
Vehicles, including trailers, will be checked at the mushers meeting on Friday evening and given a slip to display on your windshield. All vehicles will be checked again at the forest entry gate on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. If your vehicle does not comply with the above you will not be able to enter the forest in that vehicle.
Classes may be added or removed due to race requirements or number of race entries. A minimum of 2 entries are required for a class to be run.

All trails share the same Start / Finish point
4, 6 & 8 Dog Rigs: 8.3 km
2 & 3 Dog Rigs: 6.6 km
1&2 Dog Scooter: 3.4 km
Cani-Cross: 3.4 km
Bike-Jor: 3.4 km
Pee Wee Race: 1.20 km or 0.60 km

IMPORTANT NOTE RE CLASSES:
We have sanctioning for classes, a minimum of 2 entries are required for a class to be run.
The Classes will be split into the following Races (dependent on entries):
All Rig Classes: (There may be a short delay between large and smaller rig teams)
Single Dog Scooter & Single Dog Freight, then Two Dog Scooter
Canicross: (Saturday Only) Unsanctioned
Pee Wee Races: Junior and Advanced Unsanctioned – Single Dog Class only. If musher entered in any other class (unsanctioned or sanctioned) on either day the musher is not eligible to enter the Pee Wee Classes. Mum/Dad can ride along.
Helmets must be worn for all classes except Canicross. No Helmet – No Race! This is a requirement of use of the Forest by Rayonier Forests.
Intervals between heats will be kept to a minimum (approximately 5 min from last musher home or 5 min from trail boss return after changing the trail). Please be aware of what heat is due to race next and do not rely on being told or hearing a horn etc. It is your responsibility to get to the start line on time and time penalties will be given for missed starts and running starts. NB. If you miss your start time you will be allowed to commence your race at the end of your heat but penalties will apply).
The Bib Draws for both days will be conducted at the compulsory mushers meetings on Friday and Saturday nights.
Friday 10 July 2021 at 7:00 pm; and
Saturday 11 July 2021 at 5:00 pm.
Race order will be in bib order.
Any late entries, class changes and dog changes after this date may be requested from the Race Secretary (Stacey), and will be determined on a case by case basis. The Race Secretary’s decision is final, to ensure the smooth running of the event as a whole.
There will be Mushers Meetings on the Friday 9 and Saturday 10 nights, all mushers or their proxy must attend as conditions of forest entry will be discussed and vehicle inspections including trailers will be carried out. (see requirements under ‘Conditions of Forest Entry’)
No inspection – No entry – No race!
A full catalogue will also be distributed by email.
Note: There may be changes in the information in the catalogue from this form.
- All Mushers must wear helmets while competing.
- All litter (including dog poo) must be picked up and taken out of the forest.
- Light no fires! Smoking is prohibited in the forest at all times.
Failure to comply with any of these conditions may result in disqualification as it may result in the termination of our permission to use any Rayonier Forest as a race venue.
Accommodation is available from Hanmer Springs Forest Park Camp. This accommodation is clean, dry and above all, warm. The Forest Camp is also extremely well placed in relation to the racing venue. The Camp has a mixture of lodge units with communal ablution blocks.
PLEASE BOOK DIRECTLY WITH THE HANMER SPRINGS FOREST CAMP AND TELL THEM YOU ARE WITH THE SISHC
You will need to bring:
- Bedding – sheets/blankets or sleeping bags.
- All your own personal hygiene products including towels (slip on shoes are recommended for use in the shower.)
Please leave your rooms in the condition you find them to ensure our continued use of this facility. A late departure fee may be charged.
